An Ohio-based company wants to build a seven-story building on the west end of River Street, the city's popular promenade of restaurants, bars and souvenir shops along the Savannah River. An abandoned 1962 building will have to be demolished to make way for the new hotel, which would cover an entire city block. Some consider it too big.
The Savannah College of Art and Design is showing off its latest renovation project, its largest to date. The college, known for rehabilitating about 80 buildings in Savannah, has unveiled the newly expanded SCAD Museum of Art. A remarkable structure blending modern and historic details, it houses much of the college's impressive collection.
