    Three airlines dropped their fares during the FAA shutdown, but Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines and most of the rest of the industry bumped prices to offset taxes the FAA can’t charge while it’s closed. Former airline executive and industry consultant Robert Mann said the airlines often complain that taxes and fees depress demand, but when they had a chance to prove their point, they pocketed the extra money instead.
