As the top boys basketball teams in the state make their playoff pushes, teams from the metro area continue to dominate in the AJC’s weekly polls, especially in the larger classifications. Every No. 1 team (with the exception of Class A) is inside or within shouting distance of I-285.

Tonight was Walton’s night. The host Raiders won both games of their grudgematch against neighborhood rival Wheeler in front of a statewide audience on GPB.org and to the delight of the sold-out "Pit” on the campus of Walton High School.

On Tuesday night, mayhem will ensue in the North Atlanta suburb of east Cobb. Traditional rivals Walton and Wheeler will do battle on the hardwood for the second time this season in a game that will be featured in a webcast on GPB.org. The game represents the first GPB basketball webcast of the season. The boys matchup featuring two Class 5A tradition-rich teams.

Every winter it has become tradition for many of metro Atlanta’s top high school basketball teams to load their I-pods and pack travel bags to play in elite national tournaments. But last week, some of the area’s premier teams simply headed to Centennial High in Roswell for "Hoops in Overdrive".
