An environmental coalition has settled a lawsuit trying to block water discharge from a proposed coal-fired power plant. The Georgians for Clean Energy Coalition says, the plant developer has agreed to limit the temperature of the water they plan to put in the Oconee River. The Sierra Club says, limiting the discharge temperature will protect fish.

The final hoops rankings are out and, as you might've guessed, the No. 1 teams are all state champs. While the chalk (or favorites) ruled much of the weekend, Norcross pulled off one of the biggest upsets in state finals history by beating goliath Milton in the Class 5A boys final.

On the final day of 2011 GHSA basketball, a total of six state titles were handed out. Unlike Friday there were no upsets, and most of the games were one-sided. In the Class AAA boys state title game, Columbia pulled away from Butler in the fourth quarter to win their second consecutive championship by a score of 56-37.

“Revenge is a dish best served cold” is an oft-used old saying. The Norcross Blue Devils agree. After being eliminated by Milton in last year’s Class 5A quarterfinals in a controversial ending, the Blue Devils had a shot Friday night to even the score. And they did with a shocking 59-55 upset of the state’s No. 1 team.

As the top boys basketball teams in the state make their playoff pushes, teams from the metro area continue to dominate in the AJC’s weekly polls, especially in the larger classifications. Every No. 1 team (with the exception of Class A) is inside or within shouting distance of I-285.

In Class 5A, Norcross lost its first game of the season and was replaced by Hillgrove at the top. The Lady Blue Devils defeated defending Alabama 6A state champion Hoover in an interesting matchup of the two states' reigning stte champs. But Norcross fell on Tuesday to North Gwinnett, which caused their fall in the rankings this week.
