Command Sgt. Maj. Basil Plumley, a retired veteran whose unit's actions in Vietnam were turned into a book and then the movie, "We Were Soldiers," has died. He was 92. Plumley served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.
Renovations will restore a historic hangar at a south Georgia airport that trained pilots during World War II. Decatur County is getting local donations and federal grants to improve the 28,000-square-foot facility at the county airport.
The monument has been in the planning stages for many years. But it was held up by historic preservation concerns. Now the "long overdue" dedication is coming. Film and TV actor James Cromwell is among the honored guests.
