Regulators say they have closed banks in North Carolina and Georgia, bringing the number of U.S. bank failures to 12 this year. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. on Friday seized Pisgah Community Bank, based in Asheville, N.C., and Sunrise Bank, based in Valdosta, Ga.

Valdosta city officials say 31.3 million gallons of wastewater has been spilling into the Withlacoochee River from a nearby wastewater treatment facility since Saturday.

Authorities say a wastewater treatment plant in south Georgia has resumed normal operations after it was shut down due to flood waters. Crews were able to bring the Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant in Valdosta back online Sunday afternoon.

Authorities shut down a south Georgia wastewater treatment plant as a river flooded critical buildings and structures. Valdosta city officials said power at the plant was shut down Thursday to prevent further damage to equipment and control systems.

The first round of the playoffs tonight centered around upsets involving Gwinnett and Cobb County teams. In one of the biggest upsets in the state tonight, Brookwood went to No. 2 Lassiter and handed the Trojans their first loss of the season in overtime. No. 4 seed Mill Creek traveled to north Fulton and upset Alpharetta with a last-second field goal, while Parkview traveled to east Cobb and beat Walton in overtime.

Cities and counties are renegotiating the terms of a tax that almost every Georgian pays. All but a handful of Georgia counties have a penny sales tax called LOST. It goes into city and county budgets to offset property taxes. But every ten years, cities and counties have to renegotiate how the taxes are split up based on new Census data.
