Every few years the GHSA executive committee is required to ratify a proposal offered forward by the reclassification committee, grouping member schools into various regions within classes based upon geographic location and enrollment size.

The United States Specialty Sports Association will bring a 48-team Florida-Georgia Showdown to Valdosta next April. The weekend tournament will feature the best traveling teams for kids from the two states aged 9 to 14. With 12 to 20 players on each team, that usually means at least 10 hotel rooms per team, said tournament officials.

A new labor report shows no other metro area lost more jobs in the nation than Atlanta over the past year—nearly 31,000. And while other metro areas in the state also took hits, a handful of others gained jobs. The U.S. Bureau of Labor says in the 12 months since August of 2010, there was an increase of 1,400 jobs in Macon and 800 in Albany.

Region 1-AAAAA is once again a hot place to be for non-region action this weekend. Valdosta will host Robert E. Lee out of Montgomery, Ala., this weekend and should win easily against the 0-4 Generals.
