The U.S. Department of Justice said it has entered a settlement agreement with a south Georgia school district to ensure desegregation of the district's faculty and staff. If approved by the court, the consent order would extend another order requiring the district to eliminate racial disparities in how teachers and staff were assigned to the district's schools

Three of the state's four legislative special elections Tuesday are headed to a runoff, with no candidate in those districts getting a majority of the votes needed to win. Meanwhile, Valdosta voters decided not to merge their school system with the county, and Bibb voters passed their SPLOST.

Valdosta City Schools in South Georgia uses community volunteers to substit
