Authorities say they have made an arrest in connection with the death of Jasmine Benjamin, a freshman at Valdosta State University who was found dead in a study room of her dorm just before Thanksgiving. GBI Special Agent Steve Turner said Friday that 18-year-old Darien Joseph Meheux of Lawrenceville was taken into custody late Thursday night at the Schley County Sheriff's Office in Ellaville.

Valdosta State University is installing cameras in residence hall elevators, including the dormitory where a 17-year-old freshman was found dead in a study lounge. A school spokeswoman said the project began before Jasmine Benjamin's body was found, and wiring for the cameras was installed several weeks ago.

Valdosta State University President Patrick Schloss has announced that he will leave the south Georgia school for another position with the state university system.
