David Schwarz of Savannah was scheduled to announce his 2014 race for Georgia's 1st District congressional seat during a news conference Wednesday.

Three Georgia politicians have written to President Barack Obama urging him to include the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project authorization increase in his budget amendment to Congress. The president’s budget allocated just $1.28 million for the harbor expansion project — which is expected to cost $652 million.

Rep. Jack Kingston hasn't said he's running for the U.S. Senate, but he's raising money as if he plans to ask Georgia voters for a promotion. The Savannah Republican raised $842,000 in the first three months of 2013, according to campaign filings with the Federal Election Commission.

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson was in Savannah Wednesday to update port officials on the progress of federal funding for the Savannah harbor expansion project. Earlier in the week, he attended the Atlanta Braves opening day with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. On the prospect of port funding, he was loaded with baseball metaphors.
