Head Start agencies in 13 central Georgia counties will offer free testing for lead poisoning to children enrolled in the programs. The testing is being provided because the area has the state's highest incidence of lead poisoning of young children.

Some wildlife advocates are expressing concerns about bear hunting in central Georgia, saying too many of the animals are being killed by hunting. Authorities say 34 bears were killed Nov. 12, half of them females, and all in an area near Tarversville in Twiggs County.

A company says it will build a renewable energy electric generation plant in Twiggs County, creating about 150 jobs. WGS Energy Group LLC President and CEO Bret Warren says the plant will be the first of its kind, utilizing technology that reduces most emissions to undetectable levels.

An elderly couple was found dead in the yard of their farm in Cochran on Saturday. A third person died Monday in Twiggs County after suffering a heart attack. The coroner says heat was a factor. Health officials are telling people to drink fluids, check on the elderly, and stay inside.
