Tennessee lawmakers gave rousing applause to welcome a Georgia senator who opposed a resolution calling for redrawing the border between the two states. Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris of Collierville introduced Republican Sen. Jeff Mullis of Chickamauga, Ga., during a floor session in the Tennessee Capitol on Wednesday.

State senators are considering a bill aimed at capturing water in Georgia before it reaches Tennessee. Chickamauga Republican Jeff Mullis says his bill would clarify the legality of proposed new reservoirs on north Georgia creeks and rivers.

Once again, Georgia lawmakers are debating whether they can pipe water from the Tennessee River to fix a water shortage in metro Atlanta. Republican Rep. Jay Neal wants the General Assembly to pass a law making it legal to take water from the Tennessee River watershed and diverting it south toward Atlanta.

A top Georgia lawmaker says he has an idea for how the state can get more water for its needs. House Speaker David Ralston is proposing a trade with Tennessee. In his idea, Ralston says Tennessee would get better connections to Georgia’s transportation links. In return, Georgia would get access to water from the Tennessee River.
