A judge in Georgia has resigned amid an investigation into judicial misconduct. Sumter County State Court Judge Russ Barnes notified Gov. Nathan Deal on Thursday of his decision to leave the bench.

Camden County is considering using state prisoners as firefighters. The plan would put two state inmates into up to five county fire stations, doubling the number of firefighters per station. County officials say it could save hundreds of thousands of budget dollars with unpaid inmates filling otherwise paid shifts.

Two south Georgia counties are among seven sites being considered for construction of what would be the world’s largest solar farm. Sumter and Tatnall counties are in the running for a $1.4 billion, 400 megawatt project to be built by Florida-based National Solar Power. Four other sites are being considered in Florida, with one other in North Carolina.
