A draft report shows that Stewart County is the top choice for Fort Benning to expand its training area. A summary report released by the Army focused on Stewart County from a list of five alternatives that also considered Marion, Webster, Harris and Talbot counties in Georgia and Russell County in Alabama.

At least 8 people were arrested today during a protest at an immigration detention center in rural Georgia. They were demanding the closure of the Stewart County Detention Center. About 70 protesters called for the closure of the private prison in West Georgia which houses detainees for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
