    Georgia road-builders could start using a paving material made of coal ash from electric plants if a Southeast Georgia test project goes the way one utility wants. The Jacksonville energy company JEA is paving a private dirt road along the St. Mary's River in Georgia's Charlton County. Environmentalists say they can't think of a worse place to test a material that comes from coal and oil byproduct.

    The St. Mary’s River near the Florida border is at record high flood levels. Even though Tropical Depression Debby has moved into the Atlantic Ocean, southeast Georgia will see flooding into the weekend.

    Wind damage appears to be minor from Monday morning's landfall of Tropical Storm Baryl, now a tropical depression. But for some residents in low-lying areas, a bigger threat might not come until later this week. Forecasters are predicting rainfall amounts of between four to eight inches with some areas getting 12 inches.

    A group of south Georgia leaders is pushing to establish a third state-run ocean port on the St. Marys River that forms the border with Florida. Supporters say a new port offers the prospect of new jobs in an area where unemployment is high.
