Georgia Southern University is joining seven coastal research institutes to educate high school students. They will come from six school districts to learn about environmental concerns in Georgia’s coastal region.

Researchers say, there's little difference between new "eco-friendly" docks and those that don't even try to protect salt marshes. Scientists spent three years studying new different types of docks designed to cast fewer shadows on the marsh. They concluded, they're not much better than ordinary docks.

A Georgia scientist has been awarded a government grant to help identify coastal areas most vulnerable to hurricanes and other natural hazards. The Augusta Chronicle reports that Georgia Southern University researcher Clark Alexander will work to improve a software tool known as AMBUR.
