Savannah Technical College is serving one of the coastal area's largest employers with a new aviation training center. State and local officials were on hand this week to open a nearly $7 million classroom, hangar and lab facility. It will train graduates to work at jet manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace.
State labor officials reported an 8.2% April jobless rate. That's down 0.2% from March and a full point from April of last year. The hospitality industry led the growth with a monthly gain of 10,000 jobs.
Savannah Tech and Armstrong Atlantic State University are working to form an alliance allowing students who receive associates degrees at Savannah Tech to apply all of their coursework to a bachelor of science in criminal justice at Armstrong. The Georgia Board of Regents and the Board of Technical Colleges must now vote on whether to approve the proposed partnership.
Savannah Technical College start classes Wednesday in a first-of-its-kind sustainable technology program. The curriculum allows students to focus on “green building” methods in electrical installation and construction.
