When the dust starts flying in the state legislature next month, Savannah lawmakers will be kicking up sand. They're making beach renourishment one of their priorities. That's because the beach at Tybee Island is eroding. And that's not good for tourism.
Flights from Savannah rank high on a list of pricey airfares. A new report from the US Transportation Department doesn't come as a surprise to Savannah-area travelers who drive to Jacksonville or Charleston to fly cheaply. The dilemma is partly due to the city's "not-too-small, not-too-big" market size.

The car tag fees were on the ballot to fund a statewide trauma care network. Now business groups -- who campaigned for the trauma care measure -- are urging lawmakers to increase the tobacco tax in the upcoming legislative session
The city has been playing catch up to Charleston, since the South Carolina port started getting cruise ship tourism earlier this year. The city is splitting the cost of a cruise ship feasibility study with the state and the Savannah Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. The interim City Manager said the study should take 3-6 months to complete.
