The Georgia Board of Education warned members of the Miller County school board that they could be removed from office if they don't settle a long-running dispute with the district's superintendent. The state board voted Monday to delay deciding whether to recommend the ouster of county board members until February.

Atlanta Public Schools board chairwoman Brenda Muhammad said Tuesday that the 50,000-student district has been taken off probation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The district will be on "accreditation with advisement," which is one step below full accreditation, for the next year.

South Georgia's Coffee County Schools will get another visit from their accrediting agency next month. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools placed the system on probation earlier this year after school board members became dysfunctional and micromanaging and threatened school staff.

The judge reviewing the actions of three Warren County school board members has reached a verdict for Governor Perdue. He is recommending the removal of board members Clara Roberts, Cecil Brown and Charles Culver. A group of Warren County residents took legal action against the trio after their alleged unprofessional behavior jeopardized the school system’s accreditation.
