The former top general at Robins Air Force Base believes Middle Georgia has to confront negative stereotypes about the region. Retired Gen. Bob McMahon stepped down Sunday as head of the 21st Century Partnership, a nonprofit that works to protect the base from closure.

What will the U.S. Air Force look like in the future? If a series of 42 recommendations by a task force to study the Air Force are approved by Congress, it’ll look smaller, especially in Warner Robins. One of the recommendations in the report by the National Commission on the Structure of the Air Force calls for eliminating the Air Force Reserve Command.

Furloughed civilian employees at military bases across Georgia headed back to work Monday morning, after Congress passed a bill late last week ending furloughs for Defense Department employees who provide direct support for the military.

Robins Air Force Base won't see a dramatic decline in planes coming into the Georgia base for overhauls. In March, base officials announced that as a result of across-the-board federal spending cuts, 28 fewer planes would be coming in for overhaul this fiscal year. However, officials now say only one plane will be delayed to the next fiscal year.
