Some schools in Richmond County have chronic absenteeism rates that are much higher than the state average. For example, 41 percent of the students at Craig Houghton Elementary School had at least five unexcused absences during 2010-2011, and 42 percent of the students at T.W. Josey High School missed 15 days or more.

A community in east Georgia is still trying to come to terms with a brutal beating of a coach that took place two weeks ago after a high school football game. A melee broke-out between the players of Warren County and Hancock Central. The incident has prompted reviews of post-game conduct by other school districts.
