A key link in the U.S. Highway 27 corridor of the Governor's Road Improvement Program has been launched. The Georgia Department of Transportation has authorized more than $26 million for work in Clay and Randolph counties in the north/south project.

Federal officials say they plan to monitor Tuesday's primary election in two Georgia counties to ensure compliance with the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The U.S. Department of Justice says it has asked that federal observers be assigned to monitor polling places in Randolph and Washington counties.

Federal officials have entered into an agreement with Randolph County to improve all aspects of civic life for people with disabilities. The agreement is part of Project Civic Access, the U.S. Justice Department initiative to ensure that cities, towns and counties nationwide comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Federal Communications Commission pulled the plug last week on a company building a new nationwide mobile broadband network. The move is disappointing to several counties in southwest Georgia who were hoping for more broadband competition and better service.
