Department of Corrections spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan said authorities locked down parts of Coffee County Correctional Facility after a fight on Saturday left several inmates hospitalized.

State officials said illegal cell phones inside the Telfair State Prison were the cause of a large fight Monday night that led to three inmates being taken to a hospital and two of the dormitories being locked down. Georgia Department of Corrections officials said the disturbance brings to light the serious dangers of cell phones in Georgia's prison system.

Authorities said two of the dormitories at Telfair State Prison in south Georgia were on lockdown after a large fight Monday night. Three inmates were taken to the hospital, but their conditions were not available.
