Community gardens are getting a shot in the arm in Savannah. City officials recently approved an ordinance allowing residents to grow fruits and vegetables on more than a thousand city-owned properties. Gardeners have to apply for a permit. They can't sell what they grow. And the plots will be monitored to prevent blight.
