The organizers of Occupy Atlanta said in a court filing Wednesday they would ask a federal appeals court to review a judge's decision to block the group’s request to stay in a downtown park.

The Atlanta park where protesters had camped out to rally against what they see as corporate greed and a wide range of other economic issues has been cleared by police. Police early Wednesday arrested more than 50 Occupy Wall Street protesters who had set up an encampment for about two weeks in Woodruff Park.

The area around the famous arch at the University of Georgia has been home to Occupy Athens protesters round-the-clock since Oct. 6. Now UGA police are enforcing a long-standing policy that prevents demonstrators from rallying on the steps at the arch, and they cannot camp in the area.

As the "Occupy Wall Street" movement moves into its third week, it is spreading to Georgia. Groups have formed in Athens, Atlanta, Columbus and Savannah. Demonstrations planned for later this week.
