Another Friday is in the books, and we were immersed in high school football action. As always, there were a bunch of great individual and team efforts, and we’ve highlighted several of them in our weekly recaps.
The second week of the full slate of high school football games did not disappoint. Chattahoochee looked to get their season off on the right foot, but Lambert spoiled their season opener with a convincing win on the Cougars' home turf.
What a great season! The playoffs are done and the champions have been crowned. Now what? Well, the Score 44 Hoops is now complete for the school year, marking the official end to high school basketball season here at Score Atlanta.
The final hoops rankings are out and, as you might've guessed, the No. 1 teams are all state champs. While the chalk (or favorites) ruled much of the weekend, Norcross pulled off one of the biggest upsets in state finals history by beating goliath Milton in the Class 5A boys final.
“Revenge is a dish best served cold” is an oft-used old saying. The Norcross Blue Devils agree. After being eliminated by Milton in last year’s Class 5A quarterfinals in a controversial ending, the Blue Devils had a shot Friday night to even the score. And they did with a shocking 59-55 upset of the state’s No. 1 team.
In eight semifinal games played on Thursday in Macon and Gwinnett, the winner of each game calls metro Atlanta home. Meanwhile, six teams from outside the metro area saw their seasons come to an end. In Class AA, Buford and GAC flexed their hoops muscles as each school qualified boys and girls teams into the finals.
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a dynasty as “a succession of rulers of the same line of descent.” From that definition, you can see why the world of sports has adopted the word “dynasty” to describe its most dominant teams.
In a night filled with exciting games, perhaps the most interesting ones were routs. Miller Grove dominated previously unbeaten Sequoyah, while Milton wiped out No. 2 Peachtree Ridge. See below for recaps of 18 of tonight’s playoff games.
Tonight in the first round of the state basketball playoffs, Walton, Berkmar and Campbell all went down tonight in boys playoff action. Also, in a GPB webcasted game, Chattahoochee edged Pope on a dramatic last-second three-point play. See our recaps below for more information on these games and more.
The GHSA State Basketball Tournament is just around the corner. This year promises more of the usual, as a ton of talent from across the Peach State will do battle for the right to be called state champions.
