The state's largest metropolitan area, Atlanta, usually gets the appearances of would-be presidents, while the rest of the state watches from afar. But don't take it personally. It's all about money.

The head of Georgia's Republican Party said she will have to work hard to maintain grassroots momentum among voters after most of the GOP presidential field pulled out of a scheduled debate in Atlanta ahead of Super Tuesday. Both Mitt Romney and Ron Paul on Thursday declined to participate in the Atlanta debate.

Republican candidate Herman Cain says he's suspending his bid for the Republican presidential nomination to avoid news coverage that is hurtful to his family. Cain's announcement came five days after an Atlanta-area woman claimed she and Cain had an affair for more than a decade.

Newt Gingrich is naming a new Georgia leadership team as he works to rebuild his struggling presidential bid. The former House speaker has tapped former backers of 2008 presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee to spearhead his efforts in his old home state. Huckabee won Georgia in the Republican presidential primary that year.
