Federal highway safety officials released data this week showing Georgia pedestrians are dying at rate 25-percent higher than the national average. Figures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show, Georgia's pedestrian deaths have jumped to 168 -- a 13% increase since 2001 -- even while driver deaths have gone down.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the state Department of Transportation reported there were 1,244 highway deaths in Georgia in 2010. That’s a drop of nearly 4 percent and continues a five-year slide.

Thousands of motorcyclists will pass through Georgia next week on the way to Daytona Bike Week in Florida and the Georgia State Patrol will be looking to pull them over.
