With the Atlantic storm season nearing its end, the National Weather Service is taking some of its coastal-area radars offline to give them upgrades. The switch to so-called dual-polorization doppler radars is part of a 50 million dollar national radar renovation aimed at boosting forecast accuracy and speeding weather alerts.
