On Wednesday Georgia lawmakers reach the half-way mark of the 40-day legislative session. Many Capitol observers say there are fewer bills under consideration this year. Lawmakers are still working on the 2013 amended budget, which the Senate is expected to take up this week.
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal's office has announced that Firth Rixson Forgings LLC will expand its forged metal operation in Midway, and anticipates creating 75 to 100 new jobs in the southeast Georgia town. Deal said in a statement that Firth Rixson's Midway operation, which opened in January 2011, provides components for the aerospace industry.
With Georgia unemployment at 10-percent and still higher than the national average, any news of an opening is going to attract a crowd. In coastal Liberty County, there's a rush of job-seekers to a metal forging facility opening soon.
