The first round of the playoffs tonight centered around upsets involving Gwinnett and Cobb County teams. In one of the biggest upsets in the state tonight, Brookwood went to No. 2 Lassiter and handed the Trojans their first loss of the season in overtime. No. 4 seed Mill Creek traveled to north Fulton and upset Alpharetta with a last-second field goal, while Parkview traveled to east Cobb and beat Walton in overtime.

In a Class AAAA second-round playoff game, the three-time defending state champion Wolverines cruised to an easy 79-29 win over visiting Loganville. “It was a great defensive performance, and then some,” said Wolverines coach Sharman White.

The final F-22 Raptor fighter jet rolled off the assembly line at a Lockheed Martin Corp. plant in Marietta on Tuesday. The final Raptor will be delivered to the U.S. Air Force next year, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. About 2,000 workers have assembled the jets at the Marietta plant.

West Forsyth upended Hillgrove 40-28 after scoring 26 unanswered points in the third quarter. Hillgrove star running back Kenyan Drake was held to 19 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown. Drake also had five receptions for 44 yards and two scores as well as a kickoff return for a touchdown..

Airplane-maker Lockheed Martin Corp. is laying-off 540 employees at three nationwide locations—including in Marietta, Ga. The company says it expects most of the affected workers to leave by year end. Lockheed is trying to cut costs in response to pressure to limit defense spending.
