Georgia’s high school football season officially begins Saturday with the Corky Kell Classic – five back-to-back games at the Georgia Dome. It’s a tough time for several communities where football players have died in recent weeks. Jon Nelson from GPB Sports talks about those teams and looks at season ahead.
Much of the high school football playoff picture will be decided in this week’s final regular-season matchups. In nearly half of the state’s regions, the champion will emerge after Friday’s games, and for several other regions, teams’ seeding in the playoffs will be decided.
Georgia’s high school football history runs 109 years deep. The last century has produced stories of standout players and record-breaking teams. Jon Nelson with GPB Sports has tied all of them together in his new book, “Peachstate Pigskin—Georgia’s High School Football History.”
