Georgia's largest health insurer has such a strong hold on the market that hospitals can't make better deals with other insurers, which is raising flags for the state's insurance commissioner, a newspaper reported Monday.
A Fulton County judge tossed an attempt by two insurance companies that sought to block an ethics investigation into contributions to Republican gubernatorial hopeful John Oxendine. Judge Kimberly Esmond Adams said in her ruling Friday that the commission has the power to "find probable cause to initiate hearings and similarly to issue subpoenas in connection with its investigation of public violations."
The latest campaign disclosure reports show Roy Barnes took-in $1.3 million over the last three months. The former governor and Democrat has now raised almost $5 million since jumping into the gubernatorial race last year.
