A former Congressional candidate has entered the race for a state Senate seat representing part of South Georgia. Mike Keown, a Republican, said in a statement that he will run for the seat vacated last week by former Republican Sen. John Bulloch.

Legislation to allow voters to decide whether alcohol could be sold by retailers in their communities on Sundays has been passed by the state Senate. The vote was 32-22 to approve, following over two hours of debate.

The Sunday alcohol sales bill is scheduled for a vote in the state Senate on Wednesday. If the bill does not pass, it will be dead for this legislative session.
