A former Congressional candidate has entered the race for a state Senate seat representing part of South Georgia. Mike Keown, a Republican, said in a statement that he will run for the seat vacated last week by former Republican Sen. John Bulloch.
State Senator John Bulloch of Ochlocknee said Thursday he’s resigning following a bout with meningitis. Colleagues say he took independent positions that hewed closer to his rural constituents’ needs than the party line.
Legislation to allow voters to decide whether alcohol could be sold by retailers in their communities on Sundays has been passed by the state Senate. The vote was 32-22 to approve, following over two hours of debate.
