Four Republicans running for a shot at ousting U.S. Rep. John Barrow are mostly in agreement on broad themes of slashing the national debt, shutting down a federal agency and vastly simplifying the tax code. They attended a debate Thursday hosted by the Effingham County tea party.

Georgia's Attorney General, he's ready to go to court over Georgia's redistricting maps. Democrats promise to fight the maps pre-approved Friday by the Obama administration. Black and Latino lawmakers say, the new boundaries dilute their voting strength. Olens says, he can prove the opposite in court.

While Congress takes a fall recess, US Rep. John Barrow is working his new district in eastern Georgia. The Democratic incumbent could face a tough re-election battle next year. Republican state lawmakers re-drew his 12th District to carve out his home base of Savannah and make his electorate more GOP-leaning.

Republican state lawmakers approved maps that drew the Congressman out of his district. Barrow says, the GOP majority put politics over population in drawing political boundaries. The new map puts Barrow's home -- heavily Democratic Savannah in the neighboring 1st District.

The Republican-controlled state House approved new congressional district maps Thursday. Democrats say the maps are part of a systematic plan to isolate minority voters. But Republicans insist they are following federal laws designed to protect minority voters.

A key House committee approved draft congressional maps Wednesday. The proposal will keep an air force base near Valdosta in the first congressional district. The draft maps now head to the full House for a vote.

State lawmakers will hold a public hearing on a draft congressional map Wednesday near the state Capitol. The Republican-controlled state legislature unveiled the map Monday.

Georgia's newest congressional district will be based in the northeast corner of the state. The proposed congressional map unveiled by state lawmakers on Monday also redrew political boundaries for the 13 existing U.S. House districts. It showed the new U.S. House district will cover Hall County — home to Gov. Nathan Deal.
