A task force appointed to make recommendations about Jekyll Island's future says the coastal state park may have exceeded the legal limit to how much of its land can be developed. The Jekyll Island Authority governs the island. It has asked Attorney General Sam Olens for a second opinion.

Jekyll Island has the most votes in a contest by Coca-Cola. The Georgian park is set to receive $100,000 if it maintains its lead to fund park projects. It is trailed by two other south eastern United States parks in second and third place.

Vacationers heading to Jekyll Island will have to pay more for parking starting July 1. The Jekyll Island Authority has approved a $1 increase in the price of a daily parking pass at the state park on the Georgia coast.

Jekyll Island is looking for shops and restaurants to fill 35,000 square feet of new retail space planned for the state park. The authority that operates the state-owned island had to take over the retail development recently after its private developer partner was forced out of the project because it lacked the money to begin construction.

Georgia could generate about $1 billion a year by legalizing three casinos. That's the conclusion of a report the Georgia lottery quietly gave Governor Nathan Deal last week. The lottery's board paid for the study. It looked at how much Georgia stood to gain by licensing casinos in Atlanta, Savannah and Jekyll Island.
