Tybee Island officials have been receiving lots of negative feedback about a proposal to track visitors with cameras. The beachfront city is considering recording the license plate numbers of all the cars going on and off the island. But Mayor Jason Buelterman says officials may reconsider in light of public opinion.
Tybee Island officials say they're repairing a sewer line after thousands of gallons of raw sewage spilled for the second time in two weeks. Mayor Jason Buelterman said crews patched up part of a leaking sewer line Saturday morning and the city plans to replace the entire main. Officials say about 37 feet of iron pipe is going to be replaced.
When state lawmakers convene next month, Tybee Island officials will have Hurricane Sandy arguments ready when they ask for money for beach renourishment. Cities in New York and New Jersey found communities fared better in this year's big storm if they had healthy dunes.
