    Savannah economic development officials are focusing attention on 10 countries that they say have the biggest potential for increasing business with the coastal city. The non-profit World Trade Center in Savannah recently identified large trading partners such as Canada, the UK, Germany and Brazil as targets for growth.

    The government of India is opening a new consulate to serve the southeastern U.S. The consulate will serve the approximately 100,000 Indian nationals living in Georgia and roughly 290,000 across the Southeast with services such as visas, passports and other documents. It also will help facilitate business.

    Savannah soon could become a World Trade Center designated city. Savannah's Economic Development Authority voted Tuesday to apply for affilation in the World Trade Center Association. SEDA Director Steve Weathers says, the $200,000 one-time membership isn't just a marketing and networking tool. It requires a local plan to boost global trade.

    Georgia exports rose to an all-time high of $28 billion last year. The US Census recently released information about the value of the nation's international trade. The numbers show Georgia's top exports are wood pulp, poultry, kaolin and carpet. Top destinations are Brazil, Mexico and China.
