Officials say, Georgia's inland port will start shipping containers by rail to the seaport of Savannah starting in October. The start-up of the port in Cordele will be slow, with about a hundred jobs being filled in the next few months. Once fully operational, however, the port could be the center of thousands of shipping, warehouse and transportation jobs.
Construction on the state’s first inland port is underway in south Georgia. Officials say the first-phase of the freight transportation facility in Cordele should be up-and-running by fall of this year.
