Ocmulgee National Monument expansion study underway. Study will be presented to Congress in 2013. Push by many in Macon to eventually create a National park.
On December 23, 1936 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed proclamation protecting the site. It includes nine earthen mounds dating back more than 1,000 years. Expansion of the park a possibility.
