— An independent lawmaker in the Georgia House of Representatives is considering becoming a Republican, a decision that could give the GOP a supermajority in the General Assembly. Rep. E. Culver "Rusty" Kidd of Milledgeville told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he has requested meetings with senior Republicans and is considering joining the party.

12 people have requested petitions to get on the November ballot. The strong showing by Independents is a sharp contrast to four years ago, when only two Independents made it onto the ballot.
