Company officials say the solar energy system will produce nearly 2 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually. According to EPA estimates, that's equivalent to carbon dioxide emissions from 170 homes a year.

The Chatham County Assessor's Office placed an IKEA furniture distribution center in the unincorporated county, but it put the center's contents in the City of Port Wentworth, according to a tax officer. That led to a huge budget shortfall for the city, and Port Wentworth slashed its budget after the error was discovered.

The city council in Port Wentworth slashed its budget this week as it copes with a massive money shortfall, partly due to a tax error involving an IKEA furniture distribution center. The Savannah Morning News reports the city's revised budget anticipates collecting $700,000 in property taxes, a little more than half of the $1.3 million the city had expected to receive.

Authorities say a Georgia town is facing a massive budget shortfall, partly due to a tax error involving an IKEA furniture distribution center. The Savannah Morning News reports that Port Wentworth officials have laid off six employees, suspended holiday pay and taken other steps to try and make up for the shortfall.

Savannah-area officials are working to attract another big warehouse. Not much is known about the potential new company and nothing is finalized. But, industry officials say, the area is courting a 1.4 million square-foot distribution center in Pooler.

A new business task force in Savannah will focus on expanding the city's reach to overseas companies. Savannah has named 19 people to the Greater Savannah International Alliance, including Brynn Grant of the Savannah Economic Development Authority. She says, a lot of new business in the US right now actually is coming from abroad.
