The first round of the playoffs tonight centered around upsets involving Gwinnett and Cobb County teams. In one of the biggest upsets in the state tonight, Brookwood went to No. 2 Lassiter and handed the Trojans their first loss of the season in overtime. No. 4 seed Mill Creek traveled to north Fulton and upset Alpharetta with a last-second field goal, while Parkview traveled to east Cobb and beat Walton in overtime.

The Lassiter Trojans will once again boast a high-flying offense that should barely skip a beat after the loss of star wideout Charlie Hegedus to graduation. Jep Irwin’s squad reached the Class AAAAA semifinals one season ago and looks to advance even further with Eddie Printz back under center.

In a Class AAAA second-round playoff game, the three-time defending state champion Wolverines cruised to an easy 79-29 win over visiting Loganville. “It was a great defensive performance, and then some,” said Wolverines coach Sharman White.

The first round of the Georgia high school basketball playoffs is halfway done after a rousing night of action on Friday. West Forsyth upended Hillgrove 40-28 after scoring 26 unanswered points in the third quarter. Hillgrove star running back Kenyan Drake was held to 19 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown. Drake also had five receptions for 44 yards and two scores as well as a kickoff return for a touchdown..

In an important Region 2-AAAAA clash Brandon Addison preserved the victory for undefeated Stephenson on the game’s final play, as the Jaguars defeated East Coweta 24-17. With East Coweta inside the Stephenson 10-yard line, Addison sacked the Indians' quarterback.

Ranked teams rolled tonight in metro Atlanta as Tucker, Hillgrove, McEachern, Walton and others dominated their outmatched foes. In some close region contests, Collins Hill edged Mill Creek while Blessed Trinity kicked a late field goal to beat Lovett.

Class 5A featured a bit of a shakeup following the Winnersville Classic as Lowndes dropped out of the poll and Valdosta entered at No. 10.

Class 5A was featured just one change as Norcross entered the rankings at No. 10. North Gwinnett was idle but will face undefeated the Blue Devils on the road this Friday night in the GPB.org game of the week

We are more-or-less halfway through the high school football season and several players that were on the initial Score 44 but fell off have worked their way back onto the list. Jason Croom who was a bit disappointing early on has really turned it on after declaring his intent to sign with Tennessee.
