The soccer landscape in Georgia high school soccer doesn’t look much like Kevin Costner’s Field of Dreams. Other sports, such as football and baseball, feature teams from all corners of the state, but the best prep soccer in the state is clearly played close to Atlanta.

Tonight in the first round of the state basketball playoffs, Walton, Berkmar and Campbell all went down tonight in boys playoff action. High school soccer season kicks off with many familiar names atop the rankings. Perennial powers Starr’s Mill and Collins Hill are the teams to watch in all classifications. Both are defending champions, and bring back a ton of talent. The Panthers actually beat the Eagles 3-2 in the teams’ season opener.

Cobb County football has now spent more time searching for “the Promised Land” than Moses and his brethren. It took Moses 40 years of wandering through the desert; it has now taken Cobb 43 years to win a second state championship.
