The state House approved small changes Friday to new election maps it passed during the summer Special session. The changes, the largest of which affects Hall County, Gov. Nathan Deal’s home county, spurred heated debate on the floor of the House.

Authorities in Hall County are warning residents to be cautious about rabies after a rabid bobcat bit two dogs. Animal control officers say the property owner went outside with a rifle and tried to scare off the bobcat, but it refused to leave and so he shot and killed it. David Jones of the Hall County Animal Shelter says the case is somewhat unusual since most incidents of rabies in the area involve raccoons, foxes and skunks.

Georgia will gain a new Congressional district this year. That’s because the state added 1.5 million residents in the last decade. State lawmakers will determine the 14th district’s boundaries at a special legislative session in August. They haven’t said where the new district will go but one area in north Georgia has an edge.
