A Washington Post investigation found $400 million in squandered public housing funds nationwide -- including about $4 million in Georgia. The newspaper says, the Department of Housing and Urban Development spent money on housing projects for the poor that haven't been built and have sat idle for years. Delayed projects include two in Atlanta.

Fifty million dollars from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is intended to help Georgia communities affected by high foreclosure rates. But it could be some time before recipients know how they can spend the money.
