A state audit shows Georgia quietly funneled millions of taxpayer dollars into two projects in Gov. Sonny Perdue's home county as he wrapped up his second term. The audit found $4 million went toward the purchase of a forestland known as Oaky Woods that's adjacent to property that Perdue owns in Houston County.
Governor Sonny Perdue could make last-minute appointments to the Board of Regents as his days in office draw to a close. The terms of two regents expire on January 1. Perdue has been busy preparing for the transfer to Governor-Elect Nathan Deal, who’s also taking part in the decision.
A textile plant set to open in Tifton will create 120 jobs. Pennsylvania-based American Textile Company will make bed pillows at the south Georgia facility. It’s set to open in Spring 2011. The company plans to hire 50 workers right away.
