The state Senate called for a national constitutional convention Tuesday at the Capitol. Lawmakers want to amend the U.S. Constitution to impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, and impose term limits on officials and members of Congress. Senator Bill Cowsert (R-Athens) says the goal of the convention is to reign in federal government. “I think the federal government today is acting far outside the bounds that were intended by our founding fathers. And we have been sitting by and letting the federal government dictate many areas of our lives when they should rightfully be left to the states,” said Cowsert.

An internal website created by a state lawmaker is being credited with helping Georgia House members during the most recent legislative session. The website developed by state Rep. Mike Dudgeon tracks changes to a bill while in committee or under consideration in the state Senate. The website is an example of national efforts to use technology to streamline the legislative process.

A former Congressional candidate has entered the race for a state Senate seat representing part of South Georgia. Mike Keown, a Republican, said in a statement that he will run for the seat vacated last week by former Republican Sen. John Bulloch.
