The Ogeechee Riverkeeper, state environmental officials and a Screven County textile mill have settled their legal disputes on the Ogeechee River. A series of announcements Wednesday ends two years of wrangling that followed the state's largest fish kill in 2011. The mill, King America, has agreed to pay a $1.3 fine.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has placed on probation a state-run office in Georgia that oversees the use of radioactive materials at hospitals, research centers and industrial sites, authorities said Thursday. The decision marked the first time the NRC has placed a state-run inspection program on probation.
