The architect of a state ban on most abortions after 20 weeks says he's disappointed his law won't be going into effect as scheduled. Outgoing state Rep. Doug McKillip (R-Athens) wrote and sponsored the legislation that was signed by Governor Nathan Deal earlier this year but is being challenged by the ACLU of Georgia.

This month Mark Lyttle, an American citizen with mental disabilities, received a 175 thousand dollar settlement from the federal government. A federal district court in Georgia found the government wrongfully deported him Mexico.

Activists plan protest at Stewart Detention Center. Georgia Detention Watch is calling for the facility's closure. The prison has 2,000 detainees and the nation's highest deportation rate.

Georgia's highest court has ruled that a criminal defendent has a right to an interpreter at trial if he or she doesn't speak good English. The 5-to-4 decision came in the case of a Mandarin speaker convicted of cruelty to children. Annie Ling will get a new trial because she doesn't speak English well and her lawyer didn't secure an interpreter.

Two protests will take place in West Georgia this weekend. One is in Lumpkin and the other is in Columbus. Around 20-thousand people could show up.
