Officials in northwestern Georgia say a judge who resigned amid an investigation into multiple complaints left over 100 cases unresolved, 20 were so old they had to be dismissed. Gale Buckner had to sort through about 100 cases that had not yet been prosecuted when she was sworn in as Murray County's chief magistrate judge in November.

Georgia's Department of Juvenile Justice board members have unanimously elected an interim commissioner. The department has announced Thursday that Avery Niles was named as the interim. Niles will resign from the state's juvenile justice board, effective Oct. 31.

The commissioner of Georgia's Department of Juvenile Justice has been appointed chief magistrate judge in Murray County. Commissioner L. Gale Buckner announced Tuesday that she will retire, effective Nov. 1.

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice has named a new director of the Augusta Youth Development Campus, which has been at the center of several investigations involving its staff after the beating death of a 19-year-old. Officials introduced new director Ronald Brawner and two assistants during a recent news conference at the facility.
